What would you do if you had a magic wand?
What would you change about your world????
How many times have I heard, "If only I had a magic wand..."
And sometimes when I meet patients that have so many health concerns that they need to address and reverse, I ask them. "If I had a magic wand and could change one thing for you today.... what would it be?"
This gives us a starting point for making changes.
Most patients I meet would like to change something about themselves. Most of them seem to have lost the abililty to believe that they have the power to change.
So often we get frustrated by what I call the "Vicious Health Cycle". We start by making unhealthy choices. Then we find ourselves feeling guilty about those choices and then overindulging in more unhealthy behaviors until it looks like there is no turning back.
When I give my patients a "magic wand", I remind them that it is REAL! I tell them that it only has the power that they give it and remind them of the 3 rules.
1. Use it only for good - This is because when you empower yourself to make changes you only want positive changes and these are the only changes that will really impact your life and health. If you wish ill on others you are only damaging your own psyche, not conducive to healing and making positive changes in your own life. Think of ill will towards others as a big sack on your back. Each person that makes you angry or has wronged you is a potato in that sack. If you carry that sack around for a week or two what happens? It begins to rot and stink. Others smell the odor and you feel sick from the nauseating aroma. You add a few more potatos (or folks who have wronged you) and soon you have a bad back from carrying all that weight. Your adrenal glands mimic this sack on your back. They carry all the stress of anger and regret. Even one rotton stinky potato is enough to cause serious damage to your health. Make a commitment today to drop the sack!
2. Magic takes time - Once you believe and the changes start to happen, you must have the faith to keep the "vicious health cycle" from spiraling out of control again. Patience is so difficult to have in our "instant gratification" society. When you start to see results patience becomes easier. To have good health and see positive changes you have to educate yourself about the processes in your body and how to take control of out of control cycles. You can't beat yourself up about slip ups and mistakes. You learn from them, recognize your triggers and redirect. Knowing that you have the magic power to move forward will keep the goal real and the focus in site.
3. Believe - A dear friend gave me a little sign that I keep in my bathroom by my make-up mirror. It reads, "She believed she could - so she did". It's really that simple. Whe you seek out the answers to changing your health and becoming the most fabuolous YOU, that you can be you really do start to believe.
Believe! Believe! Believe!
You can do anything you desire. You can reverse disease and find health. All you have to do is BELIEVE and COMMIT!
